I know that there are many different categories for children’s books. I wanted to share how I would categorize the books I review on this blog because it may be different than elsewhere.
First I will simply categorize a book as a picture book, an easy reader, a chapter book, or a book that is a collection of stories or poems.
Then the books will be categorized into poetry & plays, fiction (which will include fantasy and science fiction), realistic fiction (which will include historical fiction), and nonfiction or informational books.
I may also categorize a book in a special topic such as animals, loss, sports, humor, bedtime stories, multicultural, and within certain holidays. I will do this to make it easier to look up books that fit into a particular topic or theme.
